Back to Walking
...and just being and listening in Nature
On our walk early this evening, just as the sun was setting and the waxing moon shone brilliantly overhead, something shifted in me, just by being outside and walking amongst the trees. I felt a sense of allowing come over me. It was almost as if a comforting, invisible being – or perhaps it was the energy of the forest as a whole – wrapped me in a cloak of wisdom that whispered, “Step back from it all. Gather and conserve your energy. Things need to unfold and play out as they must.”
We’d decided to walk widdershins tonight because I wanted to try to catch the sun as it poured copious waves of deep orange light across the landscape. If we’d taken our usual route, the sun would’ve completely set before I could reach my prime spots for capturing sunsets to share.

The leg of our journey that’s a dirt road was muddy in places, but the earth underneath our feet cushioned our footsteps and was gentle and forgiving. It’s much easier on the body to walk on dirt than macadam, especially dirt that’s plump with snow melt. Luckily, the slick spots and massive potholes that seemed to appear overnight on both the dirt road and the paved ones were easy to circumnavigate. But wow – you could do serious damage either to your body or your car if you weren’t watching where you were going. Probably a timely warning in itself.
I think I’ll simply share some of my photos from our walk tonight. Maybe you’ll feel your own unique message come to you from one or even a couple of them. Or maybe you’ll hear something in the voice of the water rushing to join up with my beloved Tohickon Creek. I took this little video the day before the ‘blizzard’ arrived.
In this moment, it feels as though life is playing out in ways we probably can’t even imagine. Perhaps we got ahead of it and now we must wait for the future to catch up to us.

I love that puddle picture so much!
Thank youI saw the beautiful sunset over the creek tonight. A sense of peace & appreciation for the beauty of nature seemed to settle over me as well. Thank you for sharing your experience & thoughts.
