Not Tonight
Here I was, a bit concerned (not quite worrying, but close) that the chaos emanating from Washington D.C. might escalate because of the State of the Union (SOTU) address tonight.
I guess I was wrong. “Nothin’ to see here,” as they say. I’m glad.
I’m not going to rehash an address I couldn’t watch. I’m not even going to share my visceral reaction upon hearing his voice and the words he began uttering that caused me to turn it off so quickly.
Of course, I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention that he ‘set a record’ tonight for the longest SOTU address in American history, clocked at one hour and 47 minutes. Huzzah.
Just listening tangentially to some of the various recaps of the evening has me feeling pretty sad. And grossed out. Lots of tediously described violence? Yup. How about mentioning anything about what’s gone on in Minneapolis (such as the murders of Renee Good and Alex Pretti) or any of the abductions of citizens and immigrants alike by masked men at gunpoint? Nope. Just some good old smearing of the Somali immigrant population.
It sounds like the SOTU turned into a macabre carnival/game show hybrid.
I didn’t listen to any of the other options, the links to which I provided last night, either. I guess tonight my cup was full.
And in spite of the appearance of the lovely hawk, pictured above, on my walk earlier, I’m thinking that tonight, perhaps, being a messenger was not in my cards.
I still feel as though another shoe is going to drop. Soon. Hopefully, I’m just being a bit hyper-sensitive.
I’ll (try to) do better tomorrow.

I did not watch and haven't even wanted to listen to any recaps. No. No. No.
IMHO, we news junkies need to cut back on our news ‘fix’ in order to maintain what’s left of our peace of mind. I, too, did not watch the SOTU; his voice and demeanor cause me to bristle and I don’t need to hear any more of his lies.
